Preview: Slideback & Philippe B – Do It

Forthcoming on the legendary Canadian label ‘Jungle Funk Recordings’ is this main room house banger by Slideback & Philippe B called ‘Do It’. This isn’t usually the sort’ve track I’d go for these days as I have gone down a slightly more tech and techno vibe with my own productions, but this one really stood out to me! Upon hearing the main old skool riff on this, it instantly put me back a few years and I imagined being back on the dancefloor in Pacha, London with my hands in the air, absolutely ‘aving it!

I quite literally love everything about this tune if I’m honest! it’s happy, upbeat and so well produced. I particularly like the vocal, I’m sure I’ve heard it in something else fairly recently too 😉

Not quite sure on the release date yet but I will keep you posted. Have a listen, if you love a bit of old skool and some uptempo mainroom house, then this is for you! Enjoy…

Preview: Groovetonic & Olivian DJ, SOLLORS – Tekknology EP, Vol. 3

Forthcoming on the new, more underground sister label of Jungle Funk, called Jungle Tekk Recordings, is this amazing tech/techno EP. Consisting of two tracks by different artists, and both completely different too; we’ll start with the first track..

Produced by Groovetonic & Olivian DJ is this track called ‘Beat’. It kicks off with some big sketchy tech drums before a nice little drum fill before this big deep bassline groove. It builds really nicely with new sounds coming in continuously, then breaks down and re-builds with a big long riser and loads of cowbell!! Then bang, it smashes straight back into the bass groove. Such a high energy track, I cannot wait to play this in a main room gig and watch the energetic reaction, great tune. The second track on this EP is by Sollors, and is called ‘Oprah’. This track couldn’t be any more different from the first on the EP. Kicking off with some big techno drums and a simple repetitive piano chord, then in comes the famous Oprah Winfrey Lifeclass vocal from one of her ‘Taking Responsibility Of Your Life’ speeches, very cleverly cut up. Throughout the track these is some really nice percussion including little bongo fills which give the track a nice identity. This is definitely one for the deeper techno heads, absolute choon! Not sure of the release date yet but keep your eyes peeled, and your ear to the ground as it’s gonna be big..

Rino(IO)DJ – The Peace Train (Black Legend Project Remix)

I’ll start by saying that I am a huge fan of this track! This is new out on Jungle Funk Recordings and has been remixed by Black Legend Project. He is becoming a favourite on this website, I’ve mentioned him a few times lately!

The main, most recognisable parts of this track are the horn and brass sections. They bounce really cleverly with the hats. I love the deep bass pattern, the rolling snares, the vocals, everything really! Very well thought out and produced, Black Legend has done it again!

The Sloppy 5th’s – Tuna Melt

Okay, so I’ve had a little break over xmas and the new year from reviewing tracks and I think I’ve found something amazing to bring in the new year with! Check out this track out on Jungle Funk Recordings as a part of their ‘Playa Del Carmen 2015’ compilation release by producers ‘The Sloppy 5th’s’.

I was made aware of the Sloppy 5th’s a while back when they did a remix for Sphera Recoords, and have kept them on my radar since! The track I am talking about today is called ‘Tuna Melt’ and its a fast-paced techno banger! Loads of little blip stabs, flowing drums, bouncy hats and a low bumpy bassline! All of that laying under some echoey whispery vocals.

I was sent this track before xmas and have personally tried and tested it on radio and on a dancefloor, it’s a corker! Luckily it’s out already so get yer mitts on it now. There are two other tracks featuring on the release and they are both definitely worth checking out, this track in particular stood out to me. Happy days!

Jungle Funk Recordings UK Vol. 1

One of the many perks to running a house music review website is that occasionally I get to feature tracks that I’ve produced and signed to labels. This is one of those occasions!

When producing, I usually team up with my radio co-host Barry Obzee, together we have had tracks released on a fair few labels and also have many more that are being released very soon. For this release, we managed to get signed to Canadian label ‘Jungle Funk Recordings’ which is owned and operated by Jerome Robins and Deko-Ze. We feel very privileged to have our track as a part of the brand new three-track compilation called ‘Jungle Funk Recordings UK Vol 1’. I am going to review all three individually:

House of Virus: Only You – Huge main room house track with some very distinct percussion and massive bass stab pattern on the drop. I really like the piano chords during the breakdown. I’m gonna hammer this in the clubs, it’s big!

Barry Obzee & Lawrence Friend: Bassline Pumpin – It’s hard to review our own track without sounding biased, but this one is full of energy, big techy basslines, synth patterns and stabs. The breakdown stays simple, builds up and has a nice pitched down spoken vocal before that high-energy drop. We’ve already tried and tested this one on the terrace of Space, Ibiza and it went down a treat!

Gordon John: Laying Down The Funk – This one is a definite for any main room set, just check out the bass pattern and you’ll see why! In this track, Gordon has fused together some big hatty tech drums with a seriously sharp and bouncy bass pattern. Honestly, you need to hear this!

Three completely different style tracks and all flying the British flag high. This whole release is available right now exclusive to Beatport for a few weeks before getting released on every platform. Check it..

Hoxton Whores, Martin Villeneuve & Jerome Robins – Dreaming (JL & Afterman Remix)

A few big names responsible for this release on Jungle Funk Recordings. This particular version is the JL & Afterman Remix. You’ll recognise the bassline from the popular track ‘Flashdance’ by ‘Deep Dish’, and this remix keeps the track upbeat whilst cutting up the original bass riff and creating something completely different. Really nice breakdown and a huge riser build into a big drop. I particularly love the repetitive vocal loop after the drop. This track is a big, bouncy tech house banger and you need to check it out NOW!

Pagano – Together (Jerome Robins Jungle Funk Mix)

Fantastic remix by Jerome Robins, this guy is on fire at the moment! Lovely vocal with a familiar bassline riff. This one has been in the bag for a couple of weeks now but needs some recognition as every dancefloor I’ve played this to has gone mad!
