SUARA – Kitties Go Deep Vol. 2 (20 Tracks)

Huge release for Suara Records and they have switched it up with this, 20 tracks of deep house bangers! I’m not gonna go through and explain about every track on this release as I’ll be here forever but having been sent this straight from Suara a while ago, I’ve had a chance to go through them and pick out my favourites! Trust me when I say this but every track on this release is brilliant, the ones that really stuck out to me though are ‘KANT – Bass & The Beats’, it’s a big bassline tune!, ‘EdOne & Bodden – You’re My Heart’ as I love the 80’s rhythm!, ‘Sugar Hill – Disco Music’ as it’s got another quality 80’s rhythm, and ‘Tough Love – Missing You’ because of the big bassline riff. This is absolutely massive! Have a listen and judge for yourself!

Sonnie Mancino & The Cube Guys – Where’s My Money (Kaarlos & Mozza Remix)

I’ll start by simply saying that this tune is awesome! Has a nice bouncy tech feel to it with a clever vocal loop. Really nice chilled out breakdown then little drum fill before banging back in. I will definitely be dropping this over the weekend! Released on the Cube Guys label ‘Cube Recordings’.. Nice!

Exclusive Interview: LEFTWING & KODY

This month we’ve decided to kick off a new feature to Public House UK and are now introducing featured artist interviews. We are forever reviewing new tracks by many different artists on this site and we feel that it would be great to show you who the artists are and a bit of their background.

For the first of the phuk interviews we have a dj/production duo who are absolutely smashing the deep house scene to pieces. With releases on top labels such as OFF Recordings, NOIR Music, Anjuna Deep and their own new label LOST Records. These guys are huge already after only being around since mid-2012, and can only get bigger..

For our first PHUK interview, we bring you.. LEFTWING & KODY. We kept things fairly short n’ sweet but had a few questions for them, and here they are:

So guys, how did Leftwing & Kody come about, how did you form?

Leftwing & Kody: We’ve been working together for about 5 years. we met DJ’ing at the same promotion. At the time we were both making music individually and were playing each others tracks then decided to jump in the studio together. The rest is history.

If you were to individually describe your production style in three words each, what words would they be?

Kody: Potent, Energizing, Dynamic
Leftwing: Jacking, Hooky, Hype

What’s the next step for your music, and where do you see yourselves going in 2014?

Leftwing & Kody: We have releases lined up for the first half of 2014. More music coming on OFF Recordings, Lapsus, Glasgow Underground and a 5 track EP on our own imprint Lost Records which will be out in the summer.

Hopefully the gigs will keep coming and we’ll still be gigging at the end of 2014, can’t ask for any more than that!

Your sounds are inspired by a fusion of quite British rooted club genres, like Garage and Deep House, so do you prefer playing in the UK or abroad?

Leftwing & Kody: We play a lot in the UK so it’s always very interesting to see the reaction of the crowds abroad. No real preference though we are happy playing in clubs regardless of where they are. As long as the crowd are enjoying it, we’re happy!

With a catalogue of releases on labels such as OFF, Alive & Noir, what has been your favourite release so far?

Kody: I think ‘Bump and Flex’ for me has to be the favourite as it was our breakthrough release!
Leftwing: My favourite is ‘You Were’, its almost 2 years old now and still does the damage in the clubs.

What is your inspiration in the studio?

Leftwing & Kody: Making music can be quite frustrating at times so we keep things light hearted in the studio. We are constantly taking the piss out of each other joking around and having wars with the other guys we share the studio space with.

You have launched your new label ‘Lost Records’, what style of tracks are you looking for, and are there any artists you are excited about?

Leftwing & Kody: We are looking for forward thinking music that has a nod to the past. We are really excited about the next few releases. We have 2 EP’s from some guys that are breaking through at the moment PAWSA & Origins Sound and we we’re lucky enough to sign a track from German Brigante who we think is going to be massive this year. We also have a remix on one of the packages by ‘Copy Paste Soul’, we think he’s going to have a big year also.

A huge thank you to Leftwing & Kody for taking the time out to answer our questions, we certainly look forward to their future projects and I will definitely be heading our to one of their London gig soon. You can follow Leftwing & Kody at the following places (click on the links):

Mario Ochoa – Like This

Big & techy! Something out on Sphera Records by Mario Ochoa. I’ve reviewed a few of Mario’s tracks in the past and they are all quality. This is his latest release and there are a few samples in their that you should recognise such as the ‘Whoa….Yeah’ from the old classic ‘It Takes Two’. The bassline is also familiar, and will be to most old skool UK Garage heads as it’s the same riff on Double 99’s ‘RipGroove’. Mario has done a great job with this one, love it!

Plastik Funk – Get Down On It (Dave Rose Vs Gallo & Alaia Remix)

Using the vocal from the classic funk/disco track ‘Get Down On It’ by ‘Kool & The Gang’ and freshened up for 2014 in this huge tech house remix. Nice choppy vocals placed over a lovely techy bass riff, loads of risers, breakdowns and other elements kicking in and out throughout. I really like it, I advise you have a listen and see for yourself. Out now on Tiger Records.

Reza & Peter Brown – Phreak It

Another big name that’s on fire right now is Reza, this time he teams up with Peter Brown for this main room house smasher! Some great stabby chords sitting over a nice deep bass pattern, nice vocal hook too! This track has a big old skool vibe to it with some familiar samples kicking in occasionally. The dancefloor needs this tune!

Heartik – Tender Surrender EP

New EP on 1605 by Heartik. Compiled of 3 tracks in total, 2 originals and 1 remix. The first tracks is ‘Mermaids Call’, this is a nice bouncy track with a high plucky riff and some atmospheric builds. I like the breakdown especially and the use of bells in the build and drop. Next up is ‘Tender Surrender’, this one has loads going on in it and they all work perfectly together. On the breakdown it starts with a dirty stabby synth then changes to a high pitch riff before building up to a great drop. I love this tune, it weirdly reminds me of the old track ‘Nightrain’. The last track is a ‘the dolphins remix’ of Tender Surrender, it’s a bit more chilled than the original and has a very distinct, and well eq’ed hi-hat which really stands out to me. This version has a nice long riser before a big techy drop, great tune! 🙂

Golf Clap – Dream Trippin’

Fresh on Freeze Dried, a label that really needs no introduction! So many amazing artists on this label and this is no exception, Golf Clap are back after their huge track last year called ‘Another Way’ with this huge new release ‘Dream Trippin’, along with a cheeky remix from Low Steppa. The original has an awesome chord pattern which takes me back to the old garage days. Use of a great vocal and a stabby bass pattern, brilliant. On the Low Steppa remix, he makes use of some really nice offbeat snares which give it a real garagy feel, breaks down to the chord pattern before this HUGE bassline drop! This is guaranteed to get the crowds hands in the air. Low Steppa is absolutely havin’ it at the moment, I was only reviewing another one of his tracks yesterday and then I come across this… Such a great release! Nuff Said!

Block & Crown Vs Corrado Rizza – She’s Not That Bad

Something new on ‘Lets Play Music’. This has a nice funky rhythm with a real disco vibe, some nice piano stabs and a great familiar vocal thats taken from Carl Carlton’s ‘She’s A Bad Mama Jama’. Huge drop with a big groove. Nice tune and definitely one for the clubs. Have a listen, it’s a biggun!

Slideback & Philippe B – Feel Good

Huge main room house tune out on Pornostar Records. Excuse the cheesy pun but this really does make you feel good! Awesome synth rhythm, big breakdown then this almighty build up to a cracker of a drop complete with an organ pattern. This has got to be one of my favourites at the moment! Straight in the gig bag and it’s gonna get rinsed! Buy.This.Now!

Manuel Rotondo – Can’t Stop (Pagano Remix)

There are in-fact two remixes and an original to this track but we wanted to focus solely on the Pagano remix. This is definitely right up my street, big deep and funky bassline under some stabby synths followed by a massive breakdown, old skool build, huge riser and an almighty drop! This is brilliant and definitely one for the main room, check it oooout!
